I'm also a Product Manager at Kosmix and want to politely point out that your assertion of "no alternative search engine reaching 1MM" depends upon how you define alternative search engine. If Kosmix counts as an alternative, I should point out that we're doing north of 10 million uniques a month via our Kosmix network (Kosmix.com and our vertical sites).
